Recent European multicenter study results show that HBP is an early diagnostic marker of infection-related organ dysfunction and can reliably predict whether infected patients will progress to severe sepsis within 72 hours (median,10.5h).

HBP concentration is negatively correlated with blood pressure. Continuous monitoring of HBP concentration can prompt infusion and booster therapy.
Sepsis diagnosis and risk stratification
A high HBP level represents a higher critical value in septic shock while a low concentration of HBP can be used as indicators of exclusion to rule out the risk of developing sepsis.
